Born and raised on the rolling hills of Mapperley, Dundeel went onto become a legend of the turf winning 6 Gr.1 races and was crowned Champion 3-year-old Horse of the Year in Australia. As a 3year-old he was simply in a league of his own, comfortably winning the Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and ATC Derby by a combined margin of 13.5 lengths. He continued on his winning ways at WFA level the following season winning the $4million Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth and Gr.1 Underwood stakes against the best gallopers in the country.
By the legendary sire High Chaparral, Dundeel displayed every quality of a successful future stallion. An impeccable pedigree, a devastating turn of foot and an enormous desire to win. The entire team at Mapperley Stud have followed his stud career very closely and we have been absolutely delighted with the success he has had as a sire. Saturday was a historic day for Dundeel with his progeny at the forefront of the headlines on Caulfield Guineas day, one of the biggest race days on the Australian calender. Super Seth, a 3-year colt by Dundeel put in a brilliant performance to win the stallion making Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas for jockey Mark Zahra and trainer Anthony Freedman.
Studmaster Simms Davison who worked with Dundeel as a young horse was on course at Caulfield to witness Super Seth’s amazing victory in the Guineas. “It’s an absolute pleasure to be on track to see Dundeel sire the winner of the Caulfield Guineas. To see him showcase the Mapperley Brand on the racetrack was a huge thrill and now for him to do it as a sire is just amazing. I’m super proud of him.”
he success didn’t stop there for the up and coming sire as he continued his good run of results north of the border in Sydney. Randwick played host to the newly created $500,000 Silver Eagle where another son of Dundeel showed his credentials as a top-liner with a powerful finishing burst to land the spoils in the lucrative new race. The Inevitable has booked his slot in the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill on November 2nd and will be one of the favoured runners after winning 8 of his first 10 starts. Another Gr.1 winning son of Dundeel was on show at Randwick when Castelvecchio put in a valiant effort to run 2nd in the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes behind the smart Shadow Hero.
Mapperley Stud has always shared a strong association with High Chaparral, their other poster boy 10-time Gr.1 winner So You Think is by the same sire. The bond grew even stronger in 2016 when the stud announced they were standing Australian Champion Middle Distance Horse of Year Contribuiter, a dual Gr.1 winning son of High Chaparral. “Seeing the success of Dundeel early on gives us an immense amount of confidence for what lies ahead for Contributer. His first crop of yearlings sold strongly at the sales and we are delighted to see that they have landed in the leading stables on both sides of the Tasman.” said Davison “I had plenty of positive conversations about Contributer with a number of trainers at Caulfield. They were all very excited with the ones they had in their stables and I expect them to be back at Karaka next year to buy another one.”
Contributer is the best performed son of High Chaparral standing at stud in New Zealand. At 12,500+gst, he represents exceptional value for breeders who are looking to tap into the wonderful High Chaparral sire line.
